‘Mining sector employees looking to become an Open Cut Examiner (OCE), a Mine Supervisor, or a Mine Manager now have access to a nationally recognised qualification through Forsythes Training.
Forsythes Training has been approved to run the Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (Open Cut Examiner) qualification.
CEO Chad White says the Certificate IV course is a mandatory qualification for people wishing to be an Open Cut Examiner (OCE) at a surface coal mine but don’t have a Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree from an Australian university. The 14 week course gives people skills to manage day-to-day operational mining activities as well as handle in-depth issues and mining related problems.
Training with Open Cut Examiner, Jeff Hanlon
Chad says highly experienced trainer and Mine Manager, Jeff Hanlon (pictured below) will deliver the course Courses will run in Newcastle and Singleton or at mine sites.
“Jeff has been successfully delivering our face-to-face group mentoring and coaching service for people undertaking NSW Open Cut Examiners (OCE) written or oral examinations,” he says.
“With more than 35 years’ experience as a mining engineer and mining manager, with Australia’s leading mining companies, Jeff knows the resources sector and the OCE exam process inside and out.”
Jeff has a NSW Open Cut Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency and a NSW Open Cut Examiner’s Certificate of Competency. He’s been on the NSW OCE Examinations Panel.
An OCE is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment by applying the safety and health management system in and around work areas of surface excavation, including monitoring the quantity and quality of output, supervising others, and applying solutions to non-routine problems.
