Staff from a number of mining companies across NSW recently completed another one of the Forsythes Training’s and ACIM Solutions’ new workshops that come under the NSW Resources Regulator’s‘Learning from Disasters’ training package.
The 22 participants were statutory holders including mine managers, HSEs, OCEs, mine operations managers, and mining engineers. They work in mines across the Hunter Valley, Lithgow and Mudgee.
Forsythes Training and ACIM Solutions are approved training providers of the MOC mandatory workshop – learning from Disasters Program No 3. They have come together to deliver Program 3, which is an option for practising certificate holders to satisfy their maintenance of competence requirement.
Forsythes Training Director, Julie Carroll, said the participants found the course to be very informative and also gave some very relevant feedback to further refine it to meet the needs of both open cut and underground mines. She is sharing the feedback with the Resources Regulator.
“All attendees were enthusiastic and collaborative in their involvement and used the session to generate really useful strategies to address common safety challenges,” Julie said.
Julie said Forsythes Training and ACIM Solutions are offering public training sessions for this 1 day course in 2020 – running in Singleton and Mudgee. She said the team can also provide customised, on-site training for mines.

The learning from disasters package
The NSW Resources Regulator has developed the three program training package. It says that learning from experience, to preventing re-occurrences, is a profound way to recognise those affected by mining incidents.
As part of the program it has developed an interactive timeline of NSW mining disasters from the late 1800s. The timeline communicates lessons from disasters and conserves knowledge within the NSW Resources Regulator and the industry. It links to information on a selection of disasters, including Royal Commission and other inquiry reports, articles, photographs and website links.
