James Nolan
Jim has extensive experience in the work, health and safety field with roles as investigator for organisations and also in regulatory roles.
He has held senior management positions in the WHS safety industry and has been extensively involved in the vocational training sector for over 15 years.
Jim completed 30 years of service with the Australian Postal Corporation working in various work health and safety roles including Assistant Manager and Senior Advisor. A major focus of his role was providing high level assistance and advice to senior and line management in relation to work health and safety legislative compliance, developing and delivering training courses such as the 5 day HSR course and planning and policy development and implementation in areas such as work health and safety management systems.
In this role Jim was required to liaise and build relationships with a range of internal stakeholders across all of APCs operations (including senior and operations management and staff representatives) as well as external bodies such as Comcare and the various staff organisations.
In 2008 Jim commenced work at Comcare as a Senior WHS inspector. He was promoted to Assistant Director of the Newcastle Office. His duties were expanded in 2010 to include a national education role. Jim managed and undertook a range of liaison and compliance related investigations involving a broad spectrum of Commonwealth public sector and private organisations who had joined the Commonwealth system as licensees.
Jim left Comcare in mid-2014 to concentrate on his adult education interests. His extensive experience in organisational and regulatory roles adds significant value to the delivery of our suite of WHS, risk and management related training programs.
Concurrent to his fulltime work roles Jim has worked at Hunter TAFE since 2005 as a part time teacher delivering WHS and management programs for the Institute at various campuses including Newcastle and Singleton. His training delivery at Singleton provided him with significant exposure to mining in the Hunter Valley through a range of students including OCEs, supervisors and Check Inspectors. He has also delivered training for TAFE at the Drayton Mine (Anglo-American) before its closure as well as other heavy industry locations such as Bayswater Power Station.
Jim has also delivered operational training for ACIMS (Australian Centre for Incident Management Solutions) in their Certificate IV and Diploma in Government Investigations and Statutory Compliance to agencies such as the Department of Primary Industry and Resources, Department of Water Resources and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
