Tomago zooms into TAE virtual classroom training

Picture this TAE virtual classroom.

A Tomago Aluminium employee is in his backyard conducting a safe manual handling task. His peers are assessing him, via ZOOM, from Tomago’s training room or their backyard. Their trainer is supervising from her home office.

It is not the traditional way businesses such as Tomago train staff, but Forsythes Training CEO, Chad White, says it is a great example of how it can help clients to pivot and complete essential training programs.

The 10 supervisors have completed a TAE40116 Skill Sets program via virtual classroom.

Chad says because of the critical nature of Tomago’s work it has a strict policy on visitor access to its plant during COVID-19.

“Even before lockdowns were in force, Tomago thought it had no choice but to reschedule its face to face TAE training course,” Chad says.

Enter Forsythes’ virtual classroom via ZOOM. Tomago set up its training room with social distancing and individual laptops for participants. Those working from home dialled in, as did TAE trainer, Di Sweeney.

“With virtual classroom, staff can still interact with the trainer, and each other, via the main classroom and breakout rooms. And people can complete assessments, even from their backyard!”

Participant feedback – interactive and easy

Chad says the feedback from Tomago’s training department and course participants has been excellent.

“Some people are initially hesitant about using ZOOM. They soon find it is easy to use and that it gives them an interactive experience.”

He congratulated Tomago for its flexible approach to delivering essential skills to its workforce.

“Importantly, Tomago needs qualified trainers and assessors to operate productively and safely to deliver quality product to its customers as well as meet compliance requirements.”

“Virtual classroom is an effective workaround for COVID-19 or other barriers to delivering face to face training.”

“With increased working flexibility, as well as the need to cost effectively train people across sites, virtual classroom is a great training platform beyond COVID-19 lockdowns.”
