FAQs

Who should take a course on leadership and management?

A leadership and management course covers a variety of essential and advanced skills for several senior positions.

This training has been designed specifically to upskill supervisors, middle managers and other new or experienced leaders who are responsible for guiding, monitoring and supporting other employees.

It is also suitable for professionals who engage in key tasks like operational planning and change management.

Sound like the right fit? Take the next step in your leadership journey with a nationally recognised training program or short course from Forsythes Training.

Who is eligible for your leadership courses?

Different courses in management and leadership have different eligibility requirements. Please take a look at our Student Information Handbook or enquire now for specific information on professional development with Forsythes Training.

Additionally, we recommend meeting the general criteria below before undergoing leadership training for business managers, supervisors and other senior roles:

  • Previous experience in managing or supervising a team;
  • Access to the internet and the Microsoft Office suite; and
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level.

What is change management, and why is it important for leaders?

Change management is the structured process of guiding an organisation through transitions—whether that be new systems, business models, team structures or culture shifts—and securing employee buy-in, efficiency and performance.

Effective business strategies ensure changes are implemented smoothly, risks are minimised, and the organisation continues to deliver value throughout the transition.

For leaders, mastering this skill means you are better placed to anticipate resistance, communicate clearly, align stakeholders around purpose, measure progress and embed new ways of working so that the change sticks.

Our leadership courses provide an opportunity to build the confidence needed to tackle change with clarity, structure and momentum.

What is critical thinking in leadership, and how can I develop it?

Critical thinking in a leadership context is the disciplined practice of analysing problems, evaluating assumptions, identifying bias, interpreting data and choosing reasoned actions over reactive ones.

It means questioning the status quo, seeking evidence, weighing up alternatives and making decisions aligned with strategic objectives.

To develop this skill, start by:

  1. Asking “why” and “what if” questions;
  2. Gathering diverse viewpoints and reliable data;
  3. Practising scenario planning and what-if analysis; and
  4. Reflecting on past decisions and their outcomes to learn from them.

In our leadership courses, you’ll apply tools and frameworks to enhance critical thought, equipping you to lead with insight, clarity and confidence.

How does emotional intelligence benefit a manager in the workplace?

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognise, understand and manage your own emotions, and also perceive and influence the emotions of others.

For a manager, high emotional intelligence leads to stronger relationships with team members, improved conflict resolution, greater adaptability and more constructive feedback.

It means you can respond rather than react, build trust, motivate your team and adapt your leadership style to different personalities and situations.

In a leadership and management program, developing emotional intelligence helps you unlock better communication, greater team engagement and improved outcomes for both people and business.

Can you forego the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and only complete the Diploma of Leadership and Management?
