What’s changed?
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee endorsed the revised TAE Training Package in 2016.
As part of the package changes, TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been replaced by a new course called TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. The new course has nine core subjects and one elective instead of seven core subjects and three electives.
The new core subjects are “Design and develop assessment tools” and “Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills”. The first new core subject has been imported from the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.
In the core subjects “Plan assessment activities and processes” and “Participate in assessment validation” there is a new elements and performance criteria. There are also more assessments required more often in these subjects as well as in the subject “Assess competence”.
Why the change?
The new qualification has superseded the older qualification which is not deemed equivalent to the new one. The changes are designed to introduce higher standards for trainers and assessors across the VET workforce.
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) expressed concern that many providers’ TAE training and assessment strategies and practices are not of the quality required to confidently ensure that Australia has an appropriately skilled workforce.
What this means for you?
Those people with the older TAE qualifications will need to consider updating their skills. You will need to choose an RTO that has been approved to offer the new qualifications. All RTOs are undergoing enhanced scrutiny by ASQA when having their applications approved.
