LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT INSIGHT – Emotional intelligence

October 25th, 2018

Experts agree that a lack of emotional intelligence is one of the top issues for Australian leaders.

What is emotional intelligence? It is the ability to be self-aware and to self-regulate.

Emotionally intelligent leaders know their strengths and challenges and how to you achieve outcomes.

Just like IQ is a measure of intelligence, Emotional Quotient (EQ) is a way to measure how well you interact with people. The more EQ the better a leader is able to recognise emotions in themselves and others, and how they manage these emotional states to have better relationships.

Consider these statistics.

  • EQ skills add 390% incremental profit; while high analytical reasoning contributes only 50% more incremental profit.
  • EQ is responsible for 58% of performance in ALL types of jobs.
  • 90% of top performers have high EQ.
  • People with high EQ make $29,000 more annually than their low EQ counterparts.

We aren't born with EQ but it can be taught.

The use of Human Synergistics® tools can be very effective in helping leaders to become more emotionally intelligent. These tools give you a deep insight into your own as well as other people’s current thinking, behaviour and leaderships styles. They also allow you to see how others view you.

Current and future leaders need to be emotionally intelligent, not just technically smart if they want to be able to manage the rapid changing business environment for continued success.

Forsythes Training has a 1 Day workshop in Emotional Intelligence and our nationally recognised Leadership and Management qualifications also cover emotional intelligence. We incorporate Human Synergistics tools into our emotional intelligence training.
