Xstrata Coal NSW Customised SharePoint 2007 Training Program.
Xstrata Coal NSW (XCN) engaged Forsythes Training to design and develop a customised Xstrata SharePoint 2007 training program for all Xstrata Coal NSW operated sites.
The purpose of SharePoint is to publish and document control workplace documents for employees to access via an intranet network. The training program was designed to ensure that XCN staff know to manage documents in a SharePoint environment.
XCN’s IT department developed an internal SharePoint test site, in liaison with Forsythes Training’s Technical Trainer David Cobbin who assisted in designing the original specification of the site.
Forsythes Trainings Applications Trainer Wayne Robinson developed the courseware to be utilised throughout the training program.
Forsythes Training incorporated into the program the following principles through discussion with Paul Hagarty, HSEC Systems Manager – XCN:
- Overview on the SharePoint product
- What the XCN SharePoint program is to be used for
- Why the training program has been developed
Forsythes Training developed a manual for end-users covering the following concepts, using XCN’s SharePoint site as an example throughout the course and utilising XCN’s SharePoint test site screen shots:
- Getting Started with SharePoint
- Introduction to lists and Libraries
- Document Management
- Using Workflow
After an initial pilot training session and skills gap analysis conducted by XCN, a further 6 training sessions were rolled out to key XCN staff.
