Rail sector supplier makes progress on TAE upgrades

Progress Rail has made it a priority to upgrade the training and assessment (TAE) skills of its workforce. For Senior Regional Human Resources Manager, Dave Wilson, the reason is two-fold – compliance and quality.

We have a compliance expectation and want to be able to demonstrate that we meet all requirements to the rail regulator, of course we also want to keep our skills sets at the best level

Dave says he thinks the overhaul of TAE qualifications is a good thing and it provides a “shake out’ to see who really wants to be a trainer or assessor.

Progress Rail sent some staff to a TAE upgrade course Forsythes Training was running in the Southern NSW town of Junee. The remainder are attending a specific course for Progress Rail at Forsythes’ Newcastle training centre.

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee endorsed the revised TAE Training Package in 2016. The changes are designed to introduce higher standards for trainers and assessors across the VET workforce.

As part of the package changes, TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been replaced by a new course called TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The older qualification which is not deemed equivalent to the new one. The new course has nine core subjects and one elective instead of seven core subjects and three electives.
