Extra benefits for Namoi Cotton from AgSkilled funded leadership training.
A customised leadership and management training program by Forysthes Training has delivered Namoi Cotton delivered extra benefits according to the company’s EHS Manager, John Fox.
A total of 30 staff completed a leadership and management program over four months.
John says by bringing together managers and supervisors from across various departments there was a team building benefit.
Staff got to appreciate what others do in the business; it opens up communication.
He says the big benefit was that all staff were brought to the same page about the best ways to supervise and lead people.
“Our team had different perceptions on how to supervise staff and different skill levels,” he says.
Now, those leaders have the key competencies to steer the Namoi Cotton to achieve its business plans.
The leaders, including some new team members, were also taken through Namoi Cotton’s policies and procedures in areas including safety, risk management and reporting systems.
“Forsythes Training customised the training to meet our business needs and it was great to incorporate our procedures and business examples,” John says.
“The added benefit is that we got feedback from the leaders on those policies and procedures and any issues they experienced in implementing them.”
John says the feedback from staff on the training has been great with some saying it was the best course they had done.
The staff connected with trainer, Paul McGlynn and they appreciated the expertise he brought from other industries.
“The fact that Forsythes Training came to us to do the training on site worked much better for us.”
The training was funded through the NSW Government’s AgSkilled program. Forsythes Trained is a accredited AgSkilled training provider.
“Without AgSkilled, the training would not have happened.”
John says Namoi Cotton plans to put a total of 80 staff through the training program once they have moved through the busy harvesting season.
