McDonald Jones Homes

McDonald Jones Homes (NSW’s number 1 Project Home Builder) and Forsythes Training commenced a Certificate IV Frontline Management training program for their site building supervisors.

The program was designed in conjunction with April Kidd (Human Resources Manager) and the management team at McDonald Jones and involved key subject matter experts from within the company.

The program was established by McDonald Jones too improve the company’s overall management and leadership skills.

The program included innovative ideas such as;

  • The Director and one of the founders of McDonald Jones Homes – Bill McDonald opened the training program outlining the future growth & direction of the company and the role the construction supervisors have in ensuring the success of the business.
  • Subject matter experts such as April Kidd Human Resources Manager spoke about workplace relations, Steve Sweeney-Ryan OH &S Manager spoke about Risk management & OH&S Policies.Sharon Davies State Customer Service Manager outlined the customer service charter for McDonald Jones Homes and the focus for McDonald Jones on providing an exceptional customer experience.
  • Forsythes Trainer and Assessor Ross Grace and Account Manager Julie Carroll visited McDonald Jones Head office and collated relevant documents and incorporated them into delivery and assessment. Incorporating the existing McDonald Jones systems, processes, forms etc provided the participants the opportunity to see how specific topics where applied practically in the workforce and more importantly within McDonald Jones.
  • LEGO Serious Play was used as a training and engagement tool for the unit on Continuous improvement. See comments below:

It was truly a great experience and would highly recommend it to anyone; I think if you didn’t get something from the day, then you must have been in a different room, I would have to say out of all the training days/seminars I have had over the years, this was the most eye opening experience

McDonald Jones homes has taken advantage of the existing workers traineeship funding under the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme and is receiving up to $36,000 in federal funding for existing workers traineeships.

The success and business changes demonstrated in the workplace by the attendees of the FLM program has prompted McDonald Jones to commence a second program in 2011.

All of the comments received by McDonald Jones Homes from the participants of the Front Line Management Program have been positive and they have found this experience challenging, rewarding and worthwhile.
