Mental health first aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
Participants learn skills and gain confidence to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults to assist their colleagues and co-workers experiencing mental health problems.
For the Workplace: This course is invaluable for workplace Peer Support and Human Resources employees. Accrediting staff with a MHFA certificate is an effective way businesses can reduce their risk under workplace health and safety legislation and reduce workers compensation liability.
The Standard Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course is based on the international MHFA Guidelines. Participants attending the course can complete the optional short assessment at the end of a course to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider). Accreditations are valid for 3 years.

Course Facilitator
Thomas Pulliene is an expert on creating mentally healthy and resilient workplaces. He uses his skills in leadership, effective communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution and risk management and a lived experience of recovering from psychological injury to provide real and practical training for staff and leaders.
Tom started his career in the military serving in the Australian army as an infantry soldier, spending 17 years in service deployment to Timor-Leste, Solomon Islands, and Iraq. Since leaving the Military, Tommy has run a successful security company, worked in veteran mental health and veteran homelessness. Tommy has had a passion for Improving people’s mental health Literacy after being physically and mentally injured due to his service. He now runs a variety of programs to support people including mental health first aid (MHFA), resilience first aid (RFA), Leadership & Management and peer support and mentoring programs
Qualifications: Tommy holds the following qualifications and Certifications:
- Diploma of Mental Health,
- Diploma of Leadership and Management
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
- Certified Resilience First Aid Instructor
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor
- Mental Health First Aid instructor.
