About this course

Projects are undertaken in every organisation on physical assets in workshops, or on a work site but also in office environments looking to improve productivity, workflow efficiencies, and grow businesses.   Projects provide solutions to solving problems as well as capitalising on new opportunities that help businesses transition to a new level of performance.

This course helps participants understand and how to apply good project management practices to projects of any size.

The workshop will provide participants with an overview of the entire project management process and the various project methodologies that exist.  It will provide an understanding of the project management lifecycle as well as key project management tools and techniques that can be applied in the workplace – such as scoping projects, creating work breakdown structures and  project schedules, stakeholder identification and  engagement and how to monitor and control projects to achieve successful outcomes.

 

Who should attend

This course is designed for participants who want to understand the basic concepts of Project Management. It is useful for Technical specialists/engineers moving into a project management team role, or working for a project manager but who have not had much, if any, experience to date.

Executing the Project

  • Monitoring Project Progress against baselines
  • Managing Change
  • Monitoring Risks

Closing Out the project

  • Verification of scope completion
  • Lessons Learned

Learning Outcomes

  • Define projects, project management, and project managers
  • Identify the five process groups and nine knowledge areas as defined by the PMI
  • Describe the triple constraint
  • Perform a project needs assessment and write goals, requirements, and deliverables
  • Create key project documents.
  • Build a project schedule by estimating time, costs, and resources
  • Understand and use the work breakdown structure
  • Create project planning documents, such as a schedule, risk management plan, and communication plan
