Course Overview

Mining Supervisors G1, G8, G9 & G2 course is now a 4 Day clustered schedule. Students will need to attend all days to complete these units.

Face-to-face workshops are delivered in Newcastle in a classroom setting.

Units of Competency

  • RIIRIS301E: Apply Risk Management Processes – This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply risk management processes in the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industry. This unit applies to individuals who contribute to applying risk management processes as part of their responsibilities. This could be an employer, line manager, supervisor, safety representative or employee. This unit applies to those who carry out risk assessment in the workplace.
  • RIICOM301E: Communicate Information – This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate information to complete work activities within the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industry. It includes planning and preparing for and conducting communication via a number of different methods to ensure work activities are understood. This unit applies to individuals who are working in an operational, supervisory or team leader capacity.
  • RIIWHS301E: Conduct Health & Safety Investigations –  This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct work related safety and health investigations as a result of an incident and to contribute to a safe workplace. It applies to individuals who participate in work related health and safety investigations as part of their responsibilities.
  • RIIRIS402E: Carry out the risk management processes – This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out risk management processes, including planning, identifying hazards and assessing risk, and developing and implementing risk controls. This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles overseeing and auditing the risk assessment process

Assessment Methodology

Assessments may utilise the following methods:

  • Include assignment and/or demonstration through questioning either verbal or written, understanding of the underpinning knowledge of the competencies
  • Demonstration of practical skill in a workplace or simulated environment
  • Recognition of prior learning and current competency
  • Third party documentation, interview processes and employer support documentation
