The course was of a great help to me as a Relief Service Delivery Manager (RSDM) and Relief Fleet Operations Support Officer (RFOSO).

I found the interaction with leaders in similar positions to myself within Downer very rewarding. It allowed me to gauge if the way in which I lead was aligned with that of others. It allowed me to work on my weaknesses and re-affirmed my strengths.

I gained greater insight into how my interactions within the team have far reaching effects and to remain mindful of the company’s goals.

This type of training was also easy to learn, with self-directed and team engagements.

It is easy on company supplied training to go through the motions, but I really felt engaged in the process and found myself examining my behaviours and what I can do to become better leader.

I have applied aspects of what I had leant over the weeks to my day to day role as a mobile technician and gleaned greater leadership skills when I step into the RSDM and RFOSO roles.

An example is this was when the team was requested to carry out a SWOT analysis by the SDM’s. I was able to talk certain team members through the process and re-assure them of the positive outcomes of carrying out this type of analysis.

I feel that with more of this type of training I would become a better leader and in turn improve the way in which the team works. The more leaders and managers that carry out his type of training, the better the position the company will be in to benefit from its outcomes.
