Solution
A customised step up training program contextualised to the specific issues facing the mine and its future leaders as well as the organisation’s current policies and programs.
The supervisors learned the key components of leading a team with a focus on:
- delegation
- time management
- leadership styles
- communication and workplace relationships
- teamwork and organisational goals.
Human synergistics tools were used to give participants a deep insight into their own as well as other people’s current thinking, behaviour and leaderships styles. The process is then expanded to enable the supervisors to see how others view them.
The assessment was highly practical using a combination of in tray activities and role plays in coaching, mentoring, performance discussions and conflict management. Management interviews also allowed supervisors to provide specific examples of how they show leadership in your workplace.
Results
The 18 supervisors successfully completed the program. As the learning outcomes are competency-based, the supervisors obtained five units of competency that can be credited towards the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
