The new core unit of the TAE40116, design and develop assessment tools TAEASS502 is now being offered as a standalone course offering.

Trainers and Assessors working for RTO’s must have the TAE40110 , plus the TAEASS502 and the TAELLN411 by April 2019.

For convenience you can attend courses in either Newcastle or if you have 8 or more participants we would be happy to come to your premises anywhere in Australia.

Course Structure

Traditional workshop delivery at Forsythes Training, plus e-learning or a dedicated event at your workplace, with Student Support Days to provide one on one guidance. (See public scheduled dates below, also includes access to online materials).

Who should attend?

This upgrade course is for enterprise and RTO trainers and assessors wishing to obtain the current training and assessment competencies to assess according to national requirements. These individuals are required to have the skills to plan, prepare, deliver, assess and improve vocational training. Individuals should be engaged in a training and education environment or have vocational skills at a level that supports training and education in the subject area in which they intend to teach. The technical expertise achieved in this qualification may be utilised in, and is not limited to, the following job roles:

  • enterprise trainer
  • enterprise assessor
  • RTO trainer
  • RTO assessor
  • training adviser or training needs analyst
  • vocational education teacher
  • Employees who need to achieve this level in the workplace. These people may have experience but lack formal qualifications.

Entry Requirement

Those entering this program must be able to provide a copy of their TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment including the transcript which will need to be verified with the issuing RTO. You will be required to demonstrate vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

You will also be asked to complete a series of questions relating to your previous employment and training history.


After achieving TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, participants may undertake TAE50116 Diploma in Vocational Education and Training or TAE50216 Diploma in Training Design and Development.

Recognition of Prior Learning

For participants not wishing to attend classroom workshops, skills recognition through an assessment only pathway is available through a formal RPL application process where previous industry experience applies. Participants are provided with a full set of participant guides and assessment booklets for use throughout the program with clear instructions on the assessments required.

Assessment tasks include:

  • Written questionnaires
  • Observations
  • Project work
  • Development of training and assessment materials
  • In class assessments, role plays and question and answer activities
  • Work based assessment and self-paced assessment activities

Student Support days included! What’s this?

Part of the program contains sections of self-paced learning where participants are required to complete some assessments within their workplace/outside of classroom workshops. This includes on-the-job learning, research and additional reading.

Participants are provided a full brief on the outcomes of the training and assessment and are provided an overview at the commencement of the program.

This is discussed in detail with participants and are they advised in induction to seek support from the trainer/assessor should the need arise throughout the program.
